Colombia Peace Treaty Campaign.

In 2016 the Armed Revolutionary Forces of Colombia (FARC) signed a peace treaty to confirm a unilateral ceasefire and reintegration of militias into society. After the ceremonial event, The government held a popular vote on the agreement to decide the fate of the years of negotiation in Havana and, in the process, the future or the armed conflict in the country.

This campaign focused on Colombian Expats living in the U.S. and was not a political statement but a reminder that if there is even the slightest chance to end violence, we should take it.

Conceptually the design was based on the controversial nature of the treaty, which many Colombians called broken or unjust, hence the term “Broken Peace”

To graphically represent this, I decided to use ripped pieces of paper with terms used by all the parties involved to denote the “broken” aspect of the concept. Simultaneously, the copy focused more on not casting blame on any involved party but instead saw the treaty as a step toward peace.

Because of the audience, the message needed to be readable in English and Spanish. The solution was to create a composition that rotates to change its language to avoid segmentation and overprinting.

The project’s outcome was a printed large format poster with a clear communication strategy that has scalability potential to different platforms.
